In order to realize the government policy of becoming carbon neutral (CN) by 2050, green transformation (GX) is essential.
The GX Initiative (Science Tokyo GXI) was conceived to promote research activities that will lead the GX society (Initiation), strengthen startups, and substantiate industrial and social collaboration, and will develop its activities as a min Education and Research Reform Project (Organizational Development) in FY2022. The project will be implemented as a min (organization development) project for educational and research organization reform by the MEXT in 2022.

Science Tokyo GXI is a research and industry-industry-industry platform for GX (Green Transformation) research, linking approximately 400 energy research-related faculty members in research institutes, academies, centers, and units, and 50 energy-related companies inherited from the Advanced Energy Systems International Research Center (AES) of the University of Tokyo. The platform will be linked to establish an industry-academia collaborative research support organization to promote and accelerate problem solving with the support of the Research and Industry Alliances Division and other organizations.
