About the 2025 Takao Kashiwagi GXI Award

The Takao KASHIWAGI GXI Prize was established in 2023 for the purpose of realizing a carbon-neutral society in Japan, to promote the development of a society in harmony with the global environment, and to commemorate the achievements of Tokyo Institute of TechnologyThe Honorable Takao Kashiwagi Prof.. The GXI Award will be given as the Takao Kashiwagi GXI Award to individuals who have achieved particularly outstanding research and accomplishments, and will consist of three awards: the GX Research Award, the GX Open Innovation Award, and the GX Encouragement Award. An outline of each award is as follows.

GX Research Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize researchers who have contributed to the development of energy-related research and development for the development of a society in harmony with the global environment, thereby contributing to the development of energy development.
GX Open Innovation Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize companies, organizations, etc. that have contributed to the development of open innovation, which is research and development for social implementation of energy technology through collaboration among industry, government, academia, citizens, and some or the entire community, thereby contributing to the realization of a carbon-neutral society.
The purpose of this award is to contribute to the realization of a carbon-neutral society.
GX Encouragement Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize students or young researchers who have contributed to the development of energy-related research and development for the development of a society in harmony with the global environment, thereby contributing to the development of energy development.

The recipients for the 2025 fiscal year are listed below. The award ceremony was held Institute of SCIENCE TOKYO March 5, 2026, at the Digital Multipurpose Hall on the Ōokayama Campus Institute of SCIENCE TOKYO.

GX Research Award
Mr. Hiroshi Asano (Gifu University)

This is because the company demonstrated initiatives that contribute to the widespread adoption of renewable energy and decarbonization by leveraging sector coupling, smart grids, and digital twins.

Mr. Koji Fujita ( Institute of SCIENCE TOKYO )

For pioneering the field of disease prediction through motion analysis, as well as promoting GX collaboration between hospitals and companies and contributing to the advancement of Well-being GX.

GX Open Innovation Award
Yamanashi Prefectural Enterprise Bureau

This is because the prefecture, using Komekurayama as a hub, brought together research facilities and related companies to demonstrate a model for the societal implementation of green hydrogen.

Osaka Gas Co., Ltd.

For developing innovative technologies aimed at realizing a carbon-neutral society and making a significant contribution to promoting collaboration among industry, government, and academia in the field of Green Transformation (GX).

Obayashi Corporation

For developing innovative GX technologies min, and for contributing to the promotion of GX through industry-government-academia collaboration.

GX Encouragement Award
Mr. Shigehiko Funayama ( Institute of SCIENCE TOKYO )

For achieving pioneering research results min of thermal storage— min of the Green Transformation (GX)—and thereby contributing to the advancement of the GX field.
