Takao Kashiwagi GXI Award 2023

The Takao KASHIWAGI GXI Prize was established in 2023 for the purpose of realizing a carbon-neutral society in Japan, to promote the development of a society in harmony with the global environment, and to commemorate the achievements of Tokyo Institute of TechnologyThe Honorable Takao Kashiwagi Prof.. The GXI Award will be given as the Takao Kashiwagi GXI Award to individuals who have achieved particularly outstanding research and accomplishments, and will consist of three awards: the GX Research Award, the GX Open Innovation Award, and the GX Encouragement Award. An outline of each award is as follows.

GX Research Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize researchers who have contributed to the development of energy-related research and development for the development of a society in harmony with the global environment, thereby contributing to the development of energy development.
GX Open Innovation Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize companies, organizations, etc. that have contributed to the development of open innovation, which is research and development for social implementation of energy technology through collaboration among industry, government, academia, citizens, and some or the entire community, thereby contributing to the realization of a carbon-neutral society.
The purpose of this award is to contribute to the realization of a carbon-neutral society.
GX Encouragement Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize students or young researchers who have contributed to the development of energy-related research and development for the development of a society in harmony with the global environment, thereby contributing to the development of energy development.

The winners of the Kashiwagi Prize (and their achievements) to date are as follows.
The award ceremony was held on March 12, 2024 at the Tokyo Institute of Technology Kuramae Hall.

GX Research Award
Hara, Michikazu ( Prof. Tokyo Tokyo Institute of Technology )

He has made outstanding achievements in the min field of low-temperature ammonia synthesis, including not only basic research on catalysts for ammonia synthesis, but also applied research in consideration of social implementation, and has made significant contributions to GXI activities.

Takeo Yamaguchi ( Prof. Tokyo Tokyo Institute of Technology )

In the area of water electrolysis technology, he has made significant contributions to GXI activities through his world-leading research achievements in the development of a hydrogen production system by water electrolysis using an anion exchange membrane and the development of materials related to exchange membranes and catalysts.

GX Open Innovation Award
Asahi Kasei Corporation

The company has deployed a wide variety of GX technologies and collaborated with various companies to promote open innovation in a substantial and vigorous manner, demonstrating many elements that could serve as a model for initiatives.

Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd.

The GX Incentive Award
GX Incentive Award
Tsendsuren Amarjargal (Tokyo Tokyo Institute of Technology Nuclear Engineering Course, 3rd year, doctoral student)
Coolant void coefficient in a sodium-cooled rotational fuel-shuffling
(D.Eng., Tokyo Institute of Technology) gave an excellent oral presentation titled "Coolant void coefficient in a sodium-cooled rotational fuel-shuffling fast reactor" at IZES.
He also gave an excellent oral presentation titled "Coolant void coefficient in a sodium-cooled rotational fuel-shuffling breed-and-burn fast reactor".
The innovative reactor concept based on Publications sodium-cooled fast reactor dramatically increases the potential of nuclear energy use as a zero-carbon energy source.

Yasunari Shinoda (D3, Nuclear Engineering Course, Tokyo Tokyo Institute of Technology )
Dr. Shinoda gave an excellent oral presentation titled "Fabrication of Palladium-Copper Alloy Membranes for Hydrogen Purification Using a Reverse Build-up Method" at IZES. He also gave an excellent oral presentation titled "Fabrication of Palladium-Copper Alloy Membranes for Hydrogen Purification Using a Reverse Build-up Method" at IZES, and developed a metal supported Pd alloy hydrogen permeable membrane using a reverse build-up method and a hydrogen permeable membrane with lower cost and higher efficiency than conventional membranes Publications.
