Research Outline
At the Ishizuka Laboratory, our research aims to achieve a deeper understanding of nuclear reactions by using cutting-edge theoretical nuclear physics and machine-learning methods, and to connect that knowledge to practical applications in nuclear energy systems, radiation therapy, and space-related technologies. In particular, we study the mechanisms of nuclear reactions, with a focus on fission, and explore their applications. Our applied research includes transmutation in advanced reactors such as fast reactors and molten salt reactors, durability of structural materials for fusion reactors, improved treatment planning for heavy-ion cancer therapy, and fundamental studies relevant to muon science and space strategy. Our goal is to pursue the physics of atomic nuclei while returning its benefits broadly to society.
