Outline of the Event

The international atomic energy agency (IAEA) report on SMRS issued in 2020 lists 72 SMRS under development around the world. In the past, power reactors have been developed and constructed to be economically efficient and to have high output (Large Reactors). Smaller reactors have the advantage that they can be designed as passive safety reactors, which can ensure safety without active components, and they can be constructed in a shorter period of time. On the other hand, small reactors are generally inferior to large reactors in terms of economic efficiency. To solve this problem, the concept of the small modular reactor was devised to standardize the reactor design and reduce manufacturing and construction costs by factory production. in his presentation, he outlined the characteristics of the small modular reactor, its current development status, and its future.
